Workshop Description
This workshop is a continuation of the workshop attended “Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Basic: A Practical Introduction to Utilizing DBT and Mindfulness Skills in Therapy” Pt. 1. Therapist would be best served if they have attended the above workshop, but it is not mandatory.
Participants in this workshop will be introduced to DBT “Emotion Regulation skills” to help clients understand their emotions, change their emotional responses, and reduce their vulnerability to overwhelming emotions. Goals and skills of “Distress Tolerance” will be discussed in helping clients tolerate and survive crisis situations without making things worse. Participants will also understand how “Interpersonal Effectiveness skills” can help their clients build and improve relationships, manage conflicts, and balance acceptance and change in relationships. The clinician’s use of validation will be examined in creating change and building their alliance with clients.
Objectives:
- Understanding Emotion Regulation Skills for teaching emotional stability.
- Goals of Distress Tolerance Skills and reality acceptance to help clients survive painful events.
- Interpersonal Effectiveness skills to increase self-respect, improve relationships and practice assertiveness.
- Examine the importance of validation.
